Here’s the long and the short of it… For David Wilcox, music is a personal compass for finding his way home. Lining it up with something deep inside, his words become image-filled poetry that dance to an internal rhythm. Challenging situations, elusive ideas, and long-suppressed feelings are directed into inspiring metaphors of hope. I still have the ticket stub. Since then, I have seen him perform twice in Austin at the Paramount Theater and several times on Kerrville’s main stage. To have him agree to play a small venue like Urban Campfires is a dream come true. David Wilcox has it all - cool fret work, imaginative, intelligent lyrics, amusing stories, and smooth, easy-to-listen-to vocals. I used to tell friends, “He sounds a little like James Taylor, only better. Better writing, better guitar and a whole lot more stage presence.” James Taylor seems to be a common comparison for people trying to describe David Wilcox. Nick Drake’s name comes up fairly often as well, but David Wilcox is an original from his chord structures, open tunings, and multiple capos to his poetic lyrics and playful metaphors. From his bio… While he's sold over 750,000 discs across his catalog of 14 CD’s, his music really takes flight in its natural environment - the live performance. On stage alone, armed with a single guitar, David weaves a rich tapestry in every concert. He’s a tremendously talented singer and inventive guitarist, utilizing numerous alternative tunings and cut capos. In addition to his musical skills, he’s an expert storyteller.
